Making Our Mark: Celebrating Community Creativity and Inclusive Arts in High Wycombe
For the past few months, the studio spaces have been humming with activity, colour, and conversation.
Now, I am thrilled to finally share what we have been working on: Making Our Mark: A Social Link Takeover, opening this October at The Hub in High Wycombe.
As an arts facilitator, I believe creative expression has the power to connect us, build agency, and enrich well-being.
This project is a genuine collaboration with Social Link, a local charity dedicated to turning disabilities into abilities by offering adults with learning disabilities the guidance and encouragement they need to realise their potential, flourish, and lead fulfilling lives.
This spotlight week exhibition is generously hosted by We Make Wycombe at The Hub as part of their creative spotlight series, this exhibition brings neurodivergent voices and learning-disability creativity right into the heart of Buckinghamshire.
Celebrating Voice and Dedication
Making Our Mark is, above all, a celebratory and joyful experience. Across textiles, photography, painting, diamond art, and mixed media, the collection reflects weeks of dedicated making, shared laughter, and personal discovery.
From Nicola’s meticulous hand-embroidered piece that tracks the seasons to an expressive series of member self-portraits, each artwork offers a window into the unique perspectives, humour, and talents of its maker.
Too often, artists with learning disabilities are excluded from prominent, high-street cultural spaces. This residency is about claiming that space and celebrating these artists on their own terms.

We have structured the takeover to balance lively community celebration with quiet, focused spaces for creative connection:
Official Public Launch: Saturday 3 October (10:00 am – 4:00 pm)
Join us on our opening day to explore the gallery, accompanied by live music.
Community Market Stall & Gallery: Sunday 4 October (11:00 am – 4:00 pm)
Come by to visit the exhibition and browse our outdoor market stall on High Wycombe Market, run and hosted directly by Social Link members and staff.
Midweek Workshops (Tue 6 – Thu 8 October):
The gallery will be closed to the general public during the week. Mornings are dedicated to Social Link member sessions, while afternoons will host quiet, closed-door creative workshops tailored for invited local care homes, assisted living residents, and specialist schools.
Drop-In Community Craft Days: Saturday 10 & Sunday 11 October (10:00 am – 4:00 pm)
The final weekend is open to everyone. Drop in, chat with the artists and curators, and contribute your own hands-on touch to our large-scale collaborative community art piece at the craft table.
