Why I’m Doing the #100DayProject
If you follow me on Instagram, you will have seen a daily influx of sketches, textures, and ideas. I have committed to the #100DayProject, a global challenge that encourages people to show up for their creativity every single day.
As an art practitioner based in High Wycombe, you might think making art comes easily to me. But the truth is, this is an actual challenge. Between balancing multiple jobs, life as a lone parent, and being a dog owner, some days I am really not in the mood to create.
So, why am I doing it? And more importantly, why would I encourage you to do the same?
The Science of the Creative Brain
The reason I promote creativity so passionately isn't just about the finished piece of art; it is about what happens to our bodies while we make it.
Research consistently shows that engaging in creative acts—whether it is a five-minute sketch or an afternoon of scrapbooking—helps to regulate our nervous system. It lowers cortisol levels (the stress hormone) and moves us into a "flow state." This state calms the mind, relaxes the body, and provides a necessary reset from the digital noise of modern life.
Pushing the Professional Practice
As an art facilitator, I believe it is vital to push myself. The #100DayProject is my way of pushing my creativity a bit more outside my comfort zone. It reminds me that the process is more important than the product—a message I carry into every workshop I lead across Buckinghamshire.
A Holistic Approach to Stress Management and Flow
Drawing on many years of experience working alongside mental health practitioners, I am now integrating my creative practice with my spiritual background as a fully trained Reiki practitioner and teacher. It feels like a natural progression to combine these two paths to offer a truly holistic approach to wellbeing.
The sessions I provide can be tailored to suit your specific needs; they range from deeply spiritual explorations to professional workshops that simply include a short guided meditation to open and close a session of focused creativity.
This format is particularly effective for corporate groups and teams facing high levels of stress, providing a calm, structured environment where participants can relax, reset, and find their creative flow.
Join Me for a Creative Wellness Workshop
If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed or stuck, you don't have to commit to 100 days alone. I run creative days and afternoons designed specifically to help you find that same sense of calm and regulation.
In my Creative Wellness Workshops, in High Wycombe I combine mindfulness with my creative sessions, we start with a short opening meditation to clear the space.
We then dive into:
Art Journaling & Sketchbooks: Safe spaces for messy ideas.
Scrapbooking & Collage: Tactile making that clears the mind.
Tea and biscuits during the session: Conversation and creativeness.
A grounding meditation to finish: For groups and individuals looking to de-stress. This will typically last for 5 to 10 minutes.
Creativity is a way to find your voice and quieten the chaos.
